The 24-year old Londoner Jamie Smith has already built two packed careers. On the one hand, there is his band of old school buddies (from which he derived his alias) the XX, who have become the international idols of all misfits, thanks partly to Jamie’s classy and minimal engineering of their two electronic dream-pop albums. On the other hand, his solo career has also taken off: a smattering of elegant singles, a remix of Gil Scott-Heron’s last album “We’re New Here”, production for Drake, Rihanna, or Alicia Keys, and some unforgettable remixes of Four Tet, Radiohead, or Adele…
The XX’s third album is on the way, but in the meantime, Jamie xx is working on his first solo album, scheduled for the end of 2014, and we can’t wait to hear those sunny grooves and exotic steel drums. Some of his new tracks will probably be played in Paris at the Pitchfork Music Festival. Keep your ears open.
