Kamasi Washington isn’t called the “saxophonist of rap” for nothing, having racked up collaborations with Kendrick Lamar, Flying Lotus, Nas, Snoop Dogg and even Run The Jewels. His debut solo album, The Epic, came out in 2015 to pretty much unanimous critical acclaim, his powerful virtuoso tenor sax distilling energetic, psychedelic jazz. With a gentle nod to hard bop, soul, Afro-beat and even funk, Washington explores a range of spirited emotions. The album title wasn’t chosen by chance: his live shows back up his promise, proving his unstoppable ability to amaze us.
