On the current Indie scene, there are few artists as zany and original as Merril Garbus, AKA Tune-Yards. The American artist has release three amazing albums, deconstructing modern Pop music, ennobling Pop-music with her graceful transgressions. Her attitude is playful as she conducts her strange orchestra, where abrasive percussions contrast with warm atmospheres and constant childhood themes, lead by her belligerent vocals. In her latest album ‘Nikki Nack’, released in May, she deeply delved into her own passion for Haitian beats, pushing them through the filter-grinds of her strange mind. With painted face and clothing from an Amazon warrior, she beats mighty drums, taking her audience on a wild adventure through savage lands. Tune-Yards is bit a like Koh-Lanta (France’s Survivor), without the worms for breakfast.
