There is not much laughter in American musician Trevor Powers, but we had been warned about this on his first album The Year of Hibernation (2011), whose main subject was his dysphoria, a mental condition inducing intense feelings of depression and anxiety. But his amazing writing skills and his ability to put his demons to music make Youth Lagoon one of the greatest yet underrated songwriters of these last few years. Wondrous Bughouse, his second album released at the beginning of the year, sets him squarely among other diabolical Americans in the psychedelic Pop spheres, along side Animal Collective or Deerhunter. Who can pass up on a journey through the human psyche?
