Mackeeper est un duo composé de Miles Cohen et de son frère Nick Harwood. Pendant longtemps, ils ont pensé que leurs goûts étaient trop différents pour envisager sérieusement une collaboration. Miles a débuté dans des groupes de rock, tandis que Nick faisait ses armes comme DJ et se concentrait sur la direction artistique et la production pour d’autres artistes. Après avoir passé des années à perfectionner leurs compétences individuellement, ils se sont associés pour fusionner leurs influences et perspectives musicales au sein d’un projet artistique unifié. Le résultat, en constante évolution, est un mélange légèrement surréaliste de rock, de mélodies pop, de couplets inspirés du rap et de rythmes entraînants.

Dans leur premier EP, « Rock Candy », Mackeeper explore des thèmes d’une honnêteté et d’une authenticité saisissantes. Rien d’étonnant, puisqu’ils ont enregistré la majeure partie de l’album sur la véranda de leur maison d’enfance dans le Maryland. Six ans d’écart entre Miles et Nick ont ​​engendré des expériences d’enfance et de jeunesse très différentes. Nick vivant à Los Angeles et Miles à New York, la musique les unit et écouter leurs chansons nous permet de nous imprégner, ne serait-ce qu’un instant, de ce lien.

Mackeeper is the duo made up of Miles Cohen and brother Nick Harwood. For most of their lives, they thought their tastes were too different to take collaboration seriously. Miles started out in rock bands, while Nick was cutting his teeth as a DJ and focused on directing and creative direction for other artists. After spending years individually honing their skills, they came together to combine their different musical influences and perspectives into a unified artist project. The ever-evolving result is a faintly surreal mix of rock with pop hooks, rap-inspired bars, and beats.

Mackeeper explores strikingly honest and relatable themes throughout their debut EP Rock Candy. Not surprising given that they recorded most of it on the back porch of their childhood home in Maryland. Childhood stories reevaluated through the lens of adulthood take on different meanings. In Mackeeper’s words, “Growing up is a choice, but a good one.” A six year age gap between Miles and Nick meant vastly different experiences of childhood and young adulthood. With Nick in LA and Miles in New York, music keeps them close and listening to their songs allows us to momentarily bask in that bond ourselves.
