Smidley

Main Room

🇫🇷

🇬🇧

Conor Murphy spent more than a decade as the frontman and songwriter of Foxing, helping shape the band’s emotionally charged and ambitious approach to indie rock. Alongside Foxing, he developed Smidley as a space for the ideas and instincts that didn’t quite fit within the band, eventually growing the project from a solo-leaning outlet into a full ensemble.

That evolution reaches its fullest expression on « Murphy Horse », Smidley’s third album. Written during a period of personal and professional uncertainty, the record finds Murphy reckoning with ambition, his relationship to music, and the desire to stay present, ultimately grounding itself in the love he shares with his wife. Sonically, the album expands Smidley’s palette with touches of indie pop, shoegaze, tropicalia, and ’80s rock.

« Murphy Horse » features an impressive circle of collaborators, including Lucy Dacus, Nnamdi Ogbonnaya (NNAMDÏ), Adam Schatz of Japanese Breakfast, and Brooks Tipton of Manchester Orchestra. Mixed by Joe Reinhart (Dr. Dog, Joyce Manor, Beach Bunny) and mastered by Ryan Schwabe (BNYX, Algernon Cadwallader, Tobi Lou), the album reflects the creative community Murphy built during his years in and around Foxing.
